Making a difference with new community awards scheme

Situation

As a business that prides itself on doing things differently, homebuilder Avant Homes wanted to recognise and reward individuals, groups and organisations that have pushed boundaries, pioneered change and made a positive contribution to the local communities in which it builds.

Response

We devised an industry first community awards called the ‘Let’s Make a Difference Awards’. The award scheme recognised individuals, groups and organisations that do extraordinary things in their local communities.

The awards were open to anyone living in Scotland, north east England, Yorkshire and the Midlands. The final shortlist was judged by a panel including broadcaster and TV personality, Gabby Logan, and Globespan Media editorial director, Rupert Bates. Our advice included management of the awards nomination and shortlist process, media relations, social media and event management.

Results

  • More than 250 people put forward in the nomination stage
  • A total of 34 pieces of media coverage generate, with a new reach of 1.2m
  • The Let’s Make a Difference website achieved more than 17,500 sessions
  • 70 per cent of all website session were acquired from social media activity undertaken by Brand8 PR
